De DQ380 (0DE) is geïntroduceerd in 2015 voor de Chinese markt. Het ontwerp en de werking van dit nieuwe DSG model is gebaseerd op de DQ500 transmissie met identificatie 0BH. De DQ380 is speciaal ontworpen voor voertuigen met voorwielaandrijving en een motorkoppel tot 420 Nm zoals de Chinese Golf 7 GTI en VW Magotan.
Door de voortdurend toenemende maatregelen en doelstellingen om het brandstofverbruik en de CO2 te verminderen was Volkswagen AG noodzakelijk een efficiëntere versie van de DQ380 voor de Europese markt te ontwikkelen. Dit resulteerde in de introductie van de DQ381 (0GC) transmissie in 2017. Het is ontworpen voor voor- en vierwiel aangedreven voertuigen met een motorkoppel tot 420Nm zoals de VW Arteon, Golf 7.5R en Audi S3 8V facelift.
