De DQ500 (0BT) transmissie is ontworpen door Volkswagen AG op basis van de ervaringen die opgedaan zijn tijdens de ontwikkeling van de DQ200 en DQ250. De DQ500 maakt de “dubbele koppeling” techniek beschikbaar en mogelijk voor grotere voertuigen met motorconfiguraties tot 600Nm.
De DQ500 (0BT) werd geïntroduceerd door Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles tijdens de lancering van de Transporter (T5) in 2009. Vervolgens werd de DQ500 met identificatie 0BH geïntroduceerd in de Tiguan (2011) bij Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
Daarnaast wordt de DQ500 (0DL) gebruikt in sportieve modellen zoals de Audi R3 / TTRS.
